Causal Attribution in the Mechanism of Personal Victimization

Abstract

In this article the authors, defining the role and place of a person in modern society, establish the relationship between socio-economic factors and the psycho-emotional state of the individual. Psychological approaches to assessing the fullness of life are not always consistent with the expectations of society and always correlate with the understanding of happiness and contentment. According to the authors, causal attribution or "attribution of reasons" plays an important role in the process of victimization. When the person to any behavior, own or another's, has an explanation. He explains his successes solely by his personal qualities, and his failures solely by external circumstances. Other people's behavior is explained in exactly the opposite way: successes are due to someone else's patronage or assistance, and failures are due to carelessness and other negative personality traits.
Causal attribution should also be seen as a phenomenon of perception, related to our natural need to understand other people's motives in order to be able to build further expectations of that person.
